This morning, the ELC students had their first chapel experience of the new school year. Students learned where their class is expected to sit each week. The SKs were delighted that they are now the “biggest” kids and sit at a lunch table at the back of the cafeteria, instead of on a mat on the floor. Our youngest toddler 1 students were nestled nicely in a red stroller at the side, with a good but “safe” view. Our Toddler 2s, PKs and JK students filled the middle of the room, with the teachers either sitting with their students or standing at the perimeter.
As with every chapel service, students recited the pledges and the Lord’s Prayer. For the singing of O Canada, Mrs. Wu accompanied the audience on her guitar. After the SK2 chapel leaders sat down, Mrs. Wu asked the audience to give a thumbs up if they think God is good. The entire room had two thumbs up. She then launched into singing “God is so good”. The students responded with singing that filled the cafeteria.
As the service progressed, Mrs. Wu continued to lead the singing with “Lord I lift Your Name on High”, “Hokey Pokey”, and “If I were a Butterfly”. Then, she took some requests from students who went up to the front to help lead their choice. Favourite songs included “Jesus Loves Me” and “My God is so Mighty”. They concluded their praise with “Our God is an Awesome God”.
Before the students were dismissed, Mrs. Wu led them in prayer. The students repeated her words faithfully, thanking God for the day and for God’s redeeming love for them.
