Today’s ELC Chapel – October 11, 2024

Our SK2 class led this morning’s ELC chapel in the cafeteria. Several students led the pledges, the Lord’s Prayer, and O Canada. With Mrs. Wu on guitar, Mrs. Li and the rest of the SK2 class led the praise portion of the service. Before the first song, Mrs. Li shared that their class was learning some American Sign Language. She showed them how to sign the words “God”, “Awesome”, “Reigns”, “Heaven”, “Power” and “Love”. Then everyone sang “Our God is an Awesome God” and signed at the same time. It was a great learning experience!

The second song was a familiar favourite – “Lord I lift your name on high”. Students and teachers did the actions as Mrs. Wu played the guitar. The last song was “I Wonder How It Feels”.

Mrs. Li’s message was about Thanksgiving and the importance of remembering to be thankful. She recalled how she was very excited when she once received a gift that she loved and played with everyday. However, over time, she lost interest and was no longer happy with it. She explained that it was like bubbles that are first blown. They appear high in the air but end up falling and bursting. She shared that it is important to retain our good feelings and appreciation, especially as we recall and list all the great things that God has done or given us. When she started listing items such as family, food, friends, etc., she blew a deep breath into a balloon. The balloon retained each breath well and soon expanded. When the balloon was full and tied, she reminded the children that we should be just like the balloon and hold each breath/ expression of gratitude. Next, Mrs. Li read Psalm 118:1 which says to “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.” She asked everyone to remember the verse and keep it in their hearts.

To end the chapel service, Mrs. Li prayed a Thanksgiving prayer and had the children echo in response.
