Thanksgiving is a season to be thankful and to reflect upon how abundantly we have been blessed, not only with big things in life but all the small things too. It is a celebration that is shared with family and friends.
On Friday, our Wesley family sat down for a wonderful Thanksgiving lunch. The festive meal consisted of roasted turkey breast, stuffing and gravy from the Village Grocer while our chefs lovingly prepared all the side dishes and dessert – frosted spice cake!
The ELC classes enjoyed their special meals in their classrooms. Some classes wore festive “turkey” hats while they ate, while other classes put their tables all together to make one long table for a family style dinner.
Students in Grades 1-4 enjoyed their turkey lunch in the cafeteria, while those in Grades 5-8 sat in the gym. Twenty volunteers, Mrs. Ma, and Mr. Schmidt prepared plates of hot food and served our elementary teachers and students. Our senior students even had heaping plates of seconds or thirds!
Some of the elementary school classes were also responsible for part of the event. This included:
- Grade 1 – Made BIG thank you cards for the Village Grocer and our kitchen team
- Grade 2 – Made thank you cards for our volunteers
- Grade 3 – Sang grace in the cafeteria
- Grade 4 – Set up the decorations / centrepieces
- Grade 5 – Said grace in the gym
- Grade 6 – Set the tables
- Grade 7 – Set up the tables and chairs in the gym
- Grade 8 – Put away the tables and chairs in the gym & cleaned up
At the end of the student lunch period, the volunteers sat down and enjoyed the festive meal themselves. A GIANT THANK YOU goes to everyone who participated and helped with the event.
