This morning’s ELC chapel service was led by Mrs. Seto and the JK2 class. After the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer, Mrs. Seto led the singing of two praise songs – “Oh Hallelujah” and ” The B-I-B-L-E Song”.

Mrs. Seto’s message centred around the first part of Romans 8:38. She described God’s love as something that helps us feel safe, at peace and calm. She was emphatic that nothing can separate us from God’s love. However, she explained that we allow things that come into our lives that make us feel separated from God. These things include disobedience, being unkind, or when we hurt others. She explained that this is not how God wants us to live. As a result, we feel ashamed and often want to hide from God, just like Adam and Eve did when they committed the first sin. Even though Adam and Eve sinned, God pursued them and put together a rescue plan for mankind, because He loves us.

To help the children understand this concept, Mrs. Seto used a demonstration. She had an egg with a smiley face, which represented each of us. A jug of purple water represented God’s love. A toilet paper roll with different “sins” written on it represented what blocks us from God’s love. This was reinforced by a paper plate as well. After she assembled her model, she explained that the egg (us) does not have to be separated from God’s love (the water in the jar). It can be removed by loving God back through our actions, which include putting God first, obeying His teachings, honouring our parents, praying and reading the Bible. When we remove the sin by asking for forgiveness, we can be surrounded in God’s love again. To demonstrate this, she quickly yanked the plate with one quick, swift motion. The toilet paper roll fell, positioning the egg to fall directly into the glass of water (God’s love). The egg was undamaged and landed safely in the glass! The students were amazed!

Mrs. Seto recapped what had happened and then pointed back to Romans 8:38, asking the students to repeat the verse with her. She then prayed, thanking God that nothing can separate us from His love and asking Him to help us to be kind to each other and obey His Word.
To close, Mrs. Seto led everyone in singing two new songs – “Oh The Love God Has Shown Us” and “Mighty Is Your Love”.
