Glimpse Into A Classroom: PK2 – March Break Adventures

March Break Adventures was a time filled with excitement, creativity, exploration, self expression and laughter for our Pre-K students! Teachers helped facilitate engaging experiences, leaving the children with memories to last a lifetime – from an up-close encounter with fascinating animals to colourful tie-dye creations, cooking experiences and high-energy playtime!

Throughout the first week of March Break, we focused on the importance of health and fitness. Relevant props, visuals, books and songs were implemented to expand their learning experiences. The dramatic area was transformed into a doctor’s office to enhance pretend play.

Students learned about the necessity of living a healthy lifestyle. They created a fruit kebab with a variety of different fruits. They were excited to taste the fruits of their labour.

Dr. Mariam presented an outstanding presentation that was hands on and informative. The children learned interesting facts about what a doctor’s job entails.  She showcased a variety of interesting props. The students were excited as they encountered an opportunity for an up-close hands on experience.

Gym days was all about movement and rhythm, starting with a lively and impressive movement class conducted by Ms Romeo. It had everyone on their feet; including teachers. The students followed along with the instructor’s fun and exciting moves, laughing as they learned new steps and danced together as a group. It was heartwarming to see them expressing themselves so freely without limitations. The excitement continued with a jumping castle, which quickly became a crowd favourite. The children bounced as they released their energy, making the gym echo with joyful squeals.

One of the biggest highlights during the March Break was a visit from “Zoo To You”. It was an interactive animal show that brought the wonders of the animal kingdom right to our curious students. The students were thrilled to meet a variety of creatures, including reptiles, furry friends, and even some exotic animals big and small which they had never seen before. The presenter was knowledgeable and patient, allowing the children to touch and observe the animals while learning about their habitats, diets, and unique characteristics. The children’s eyes lit up with curiosity as they asked thoughtful questions and bravely touched some of the animals, fostering a greater appreciation for wildlife.

Creativity was in full swing during our tie-dye shirt activity. Each student had the opportunity to design their own shirt, selecting from a rainbow of colours and experimenting with different patterns. The room buzzed with excitement as the colors mixed and swirled, creating one of a kind masterpieces. The sense of accomplishment on the children’s faces when they saw their finished shirts was priceless. They couldn’t wait to wear them and show off their artistic skills.

“How does learning happen” was incorporated with an emphasis on parent participation. We were all so appreciative of Dr. Miriam and Ms Romeo who graced us with their presence.

The theme was intentional. It is essential for children to understand the importance of overall well-being.

March Break festivities for the students was truly a celebration of learning, creativity, and fun. These activities not only allowed the children to explore new interests but also helped them develop important social and motor skills. As teachers, it was rewarding to witness their excitement, growth, and teamwork throughout the week. We are already looking forward to creating more memorable moments with our Pre-K class in the weeks to come!
