SK Trip to Willowgrove Farm

by Mrs. Li

Our kindergarten class had a wonderful experience on our recent field trip to Willowgrove Farm. We spent the day learning all about how maple syrup is made, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather—bright and crisp, especially after a fresh snowfall the day before! The children were filled with joy and curiosity as we set out to explore God’s creation and discover the sweet process He designed through nature.

The excitement began even before we arrived at the farm, as many of the children were thrilled to ride the school bus. For some, it was their very first time on a bus, and their smiles and singing made the journey extra special. Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious, setting a cheerful tone for the day ahead.

When we arrived at Willowgrove, we were warmly welcomed by our tour guides who introduced us to the world of maple syrup making.

One of the most exciting parts of the morning was when each child had the opportunity to tap a Sugar Maple tree using an auger. With careful guidance, they drilled into the tree trunk and hung a bucket to collect the sap. This hands-on activity gave them a deeper appreciation for the hard work and patience involved in producing syrup.

After that, we walked to the sugar shack, where we saw the sap boiling in a large evaporator pan. Farmer John was there to explain the process and answer questions. The children watched with fascination as the steam rose and the clear sap was transformed into golden syrup. It was a powerful reminder of how God provides for us in such thoughtful and creative ways, even through something as simple as a tree.

Later in the day, we took a short break to enjoy a snack. Thanks to Wesley’s wonderful kitchen staff, the children were treated to Goldfish crackers, which gave them a chance to rest and refuel. We’re so thankful for the care and support of our kitchen team, who always help make days like this possible.

By the end of our visit, the children were full of happy memories and new knowledge. From tapping trees to tasting syrup, riding the bus to enjoying snacks with friends, the day was filled with learning, laughter, and a sense of wonder at God’s creation. We are truly grateful for such a joyful and enriching experience at Willowgrove Farm.
