This week, in the elementary division, chapel services were held from Monday to Thursday. The Holy Week services were led entirely by the Grade 7&8 Worship Team.

Services from Monday to Wednesday took place after morning recess so it did not include pledges, The Lord’s Prayer or O Canada, which were all done after morning announcements. Each of those services included a time of musical worship and readings that focused on events and emotions that must have been felt leading up to and including the crucifixion of Christ. For example,
- Monday:
- The Triumphant Entry – Happiness
- Jesus Overturns the Tables at the Temple – Anger
- Tuesday:
- Mary Anoints Jesus – Gratitude
- The Last Supper – Surprise
- Wednesday:
- Jesus’s Betrayal – Disgust
- The Crucifixion – Sadness

On Thursday, the chapel service followed our regular format, with the singing of O Canada and the Land Acknowledgement. Then a short video called “The Curse is Broken” was shown, setting the tone for the remembrance of the death and resurrection of Christ. The Worship Team opened with “Living Hope” by Phil Wickham. The gym filled with praise, especially during the chorus.
Today’s readings continued with the events that happened after the death of Jesus and the feelings that were felt. Readings included stories about the following:
- The Unknown After Jesus’s Death – Fear
- The Resurrection – Joy
- The Restoration of Peter – Remorse
- The Great Commission – Bravery

In between the readings, we also had representatives for the Grade 3 class share that the next Care & Share event will be for RISE Support Centre, which provides love and care for pregnant women and new mothers. In addition to a small monetary donation for the centre, students will be asked to make Mother’s Day cards that will be distributed to some of the centre’s clients. Our April Care & Share Day will take place on Thursday, the 24th.

The last worship song that was sung this morning was “Praise” by Brandon Lake / Elevation Worship. This is an upbeat favourite of our Worship Team and students could be seen raising their arms with praise.
To end the service, everyone repeated our aspirational passage, which also included an additional line – “And today especially, may I reflect on what Jesus has done for me during this Easter season.“
AMEN.
