Valentine’s Day is celebrated every year on the 14th of February all around the world. For many, it’s a special time in the year when people show their affection and appreciation for special individuals in their lives. This is often demonstrated by sending cards, partaking in special heart shaped sweets, or other celebratory activities.
During the days leading up to Valentine’s, classrooms and hallways were brightly decorated with hearts, flowers, streamers and other decorations! Special Valentine’s books and stickers were ordered for our ELC students and party activities were planned for our elementary classes.

Our kitchen staff also prepared 500 cupcakes (including some mini ones for our toddlers), and they received special decorating help from Mrs. Mortimer, Ms. Hoover, Mrs. Ma and even Mr. Ma! The school also purchases other nut-free treats for the elementary class parties. The ELC classes received special trays of fresh fruit in addition to their cupcakes.

Every class did something unique during the school day. For example, our Grade 4B class invited their Reading Buddies partner class, the JK1s, upstairs to their classroom. There, they listened to the story The Crayons Love Our Planet by Drew Daywalt. It’s about the different colours that can be seen in the wondrous elements and creations on our planet. After the story, students teamed up with their Reading Buddy to choose a colour special to them and wrote one or two sentences about how love is like that colour. Then, they put together a wonderful Valentine’s poster that used their chosen colour. It was a fantastic activity to do together that continued to build their friendship!

After the activity with their Grade 4 Reading Buddies, the JK1 class when back to their classroom downstairs to have their Valentine’s Dance Party with glow sticks!

As you can see from the photos, our students and staff had a very special day. We wanted to also extend our appreciation for those parents who made a small donation to help make these happy celebrations possible. Thank you so much and Happy Valentine’s Day!
