In October, our Grade 6 class organized our Care & Share event for Toy Mountain. Each month, one of our SK-Grade 8 classes picks a charity or organization to support with tangible hands-on help to share God’s love and blessings with others. It has become a Wesley tradition for at least 12 years for the Grade 6 class to choose Toy Mountain as their charity.
With the money they collected , the class went to the Toys ‘R Us at Markville Mall on November 20th to purchase toys for toddlers to teens to donate to the CTV/ Salvation Army / Toronto Area FORD Dealers’ Toy Mountain campaign. Thanks to the kindness of the manager, the store opened an hour earlier to give our students exclusive shopping time. Armed with calculators, checklists, and assigned roles, each team of students carefully selected toys for the different age groups with the budget they were given.
On Monday, November 25th, CTV journalist Andria Case, Erin Boyle from the Salvation Army and Darcy Chisamore from the Toronto Area Ford Dealers met with our Grade 6 students to film a segment for the 2024 Toy Mountain Campaign. This year, the campaign team is visiting schools in the GTA to find out why kids are helping other kids as part of Toy Mountain. Mr. Pun, Miss Errington and a few of our Grade 6 students were interviewed about their involvement. The Wesley Christian Academy segment was aired in early December. If you missed it, you can see it HERE until Feb 08, 2025.
