Glimpse Into A Classroom: Gr8 History – Confederation Reenactment

by Ms. Tam

To conclude their history unit, the grade 8s conducted their own version of the Confederation from 1867 which showed how different provinces joined together to create the Canada we know today.

Delegates representing different provinces and territories donned their most formal attire to attend this solemn event. Each delegate was given a chance to explain why they believe their province should or should not be part of the Confederation.

Our lawmakers raised concerns and set conditions for their provinces to be included, some of which included: universal suffrage for women and indigenous peoples, cancellation of all provincial debt and extra military protection. As serious as the topic may sound, there was no shortage of tricky questions, laughter and cheers from the delegates during the open debate.

It was a real dilemma for Ms Tam to choose a winning side since both sides did such a great job!
