Glimpse Into A Classroom: Grade 2A – Community & Friendship

During the month of December, the 2A class at our school demonstrated the true essence of community and friendship. When a classmate embarked on an exciting vacation through South America, the class found a unique way to stay connected and share in his adventures. The student sent daily video blogs, capturing his experiences from the previous day, and the 2A students eagerly awaited these updates each morning. They responded with their own videos, filled with reactions, questions, and personal updates, creating a beautiful exchange of stories and learning.

This student’s journey took him through some of the most breathtaking landscapes and cultural experiences South America has to offer. From the stark beauty of the Salt Flats to the awe-inspiring sight of a massive glacier, and even a visit to an Indigenous family’s home on Lake Titicaca, the student’s video blogs brought these wonders to life for his classmates. These daily updates sparked lively discussions in the classroom about God’s magnificent creation, the diversity of cultures, and the natural world that He has crafted.

In their daily discussions, the 2A students delved into various topics inspired by the student’s adventures. They explored the science behind the formation of glaciers and salt flats, discussed the importance of preserving natural wonders, and reflected on the different ways people around the world live. These conversations not only enhanced their understanding of geography and science but also deepened their appreciation for the beauty and diversity of God’s creation. The students were particularly fascinated by the Indigenous family’s way of life on Lake Titicaca, which led to a meaningful dialogue about respect, hospitality, differences/similarities between cultures and the richness of cultural traditions.

This experience of video blogging back and forth is a keystone example of the classroom community and love that was sewn through consistently checking in on one another. There is a lot of love and care in this classroom, and this experience is a reminder that friendships can span across oceans, as long as you are willing to make time for one another. The 2A class has shown that with a little creativity and a lot of heart, we can stay connected and support each other, no matter the distance.

The strength of the 2A class community was so heartening to see. Their dedication to maintaining their bond with the student, despite the miles between them, highlights the importance of friendship, communication, and the joy of shared experiences. This story is a testament to the power of community and the love that binds us together, reminding us all of the beautiful connections we can foster, even when apart. The 2A class has set a wonderful example of how we can all stay connected and support each other, no matter where life takes us!
