This year in Social Studies, the grade 5 classes have been learning about Early Contact between European explorers and Indigenous people prior to 1713.
As part of this unit, we learned about some challenges that the European explorers would have faced in their search for the “New Found Land”. Using this knowledge, the grade 5s responded to an ad from explorer John Cabot, who was hoping to find a new Ship Hand for his exploration. After we completed our letters, we made them look “aged” by tearing the paper and dripping coffee on it. We then presented our letters to the class, with hopes that we would be chosen for the exploration!
