Our Senior Band has begun rehearsals in preparation for the Spring Concert in June, as well as perhaps a couple other performance opportunities later on this school year. This is our third year of having the band back after the Covid-19 pandemic, and the students have shown great enthusiasm and determination to begin learning the music. For students new to the band, these first few rehearsals can feel overwhelming as they are not used to playing in such a large ensemble with multiple parts, but it is amazing to see the progress that will happen! Within the next few months the students will know their parts and the music that seems challenging right now will not seem so tricky!
This year, we have nearly 60 students in grades six through eight who have committed to coming to weekly before-school practices. Within this large group, the music will comprise of 7-10 different parts spread out over the six different instrument groupings of flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and baritone. We will also have some students on the drum kit!
I am thrilled that so many students are excited for band and I look forward to hearing the amazing music that they will perform in a few months!
