FAQs for the Kindergarten
These are some of the questions we are often asked. If you have additional questions, please give us a call at (905) 201-8461 or email us at info@wesleyca.com.
How big are classes?
Our Toddler classes have a 1:5 teacher to children ratio, with a maximum class size of 15. Our Pre-Kindergarten classes have a 1:8 teacher to children ratio, with a maximum class size of 24. Our Kindergarten classes have a 1:13 teacher to children ratio, with a maximum class size of 26, if the classroom size allows it.
What are your centre hours and closures?
The Early Learning Centre opens from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, September to June. We are closed all of July and reopen in August with camp. We are closed for all civic and statutory holidays.
Do you have a part time program (e.g. 2 or 3 days per week)?
We only provide full time care.
Do you accept subsidy?
We accept York Region subsidy. However, we have limited spaces allocated to subsidy.
What is the tuition cost?
Detailed tuition information can be provided during a virtual or in-person tour
Do you have waiting list?
The centre generally operates at full capacity. If there are openings, we work from a waiting list. We begin enrolment for September around mid-March. Once spaces have been filled, it then becomes a ‘one-out, one-in’ situation and we would continue to work our way down the wait list.
Do I get a refund if my child is absent due to illness, vacation, or other absences?
We base our costs on the number of children enroled in our programs. As such, we cannot offer refunds if your child misses days due to an illness, vacation, or other absence.
How often do you clean the rooms and toys?
All of our rooms have cleaning schedules for different areas of the classroom throughout the week. It a teacher sees a child cough, sneeze or put a toy in their mouth, the toy goes directly into the sink in the classroom to be cleaned and sanitized. In addition, we have daytime and evening custodians that clean on a regular schedule.
Are you nut fee and how do you accommodate allergies?
We strive to minimize the risk of exposure to peanuts and tree nuts to the children in our care. We do not use nuts in our meal preparation and the kitchen staff will prepare separate meals for those with allergies.
What is your policy regarding sick children?
To keep our children, their families and our staff as healthy as possible, we require that any child with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or contagious disease be kept at home. They may return 24 after the last symptom has dissipated and has not had any fever reducing medication.
We can administer medication if it has been prescribed by a doctor. A medication form must be filled out by the parents and all medication must be in original containers.
How do you communicate with parents?
The parents receive a daily email from teachers that documents feedings, naps, diaper/potty times and other important notes. In addition, we provide a newsletter to share news, event information, and other notes with our parent community.
What if someone else (other than my spouse) has to pick up my child?
To protect your child, we require a list of the names of any individual who has permission to pick up your child. We require advance notice when someone other than a family member picks up your child, and we will check for identification. If we have any questions or concerns, we ask that you are available via cell phone to provide confirmation.
Do you provide meals and snacks?
Yes! In fact, we maintain a commercial kitchen and a full-time cook so that we can prepare and serve nutritious, home-cooked meals and snacks for children. Our weekly menus are posted just outside the kitchen and in every classroom, as well as on our website.
What are the qualifications and training requirements for staff?
Staff must adhere to a many policies and practices including the ELC Program Statement as well as Ministry, fire, and health regulations. Annual review of these policies and procedures ensures our staff are knowledgeable and prepared to handle situations. All ELC staff have Criminal Record Checks with Vulnerable Sector Screening and hold current certification in Standard First Aid and Infant/Child CPR. ELC staff with an Early Childhood Education Diploma must hold a current and clear membership with the College.
What is not included in the tuition fees?
Not included in tuition fees are uniforms, before and after school care, and field trips.
How does Wesley support students with special needs?
We consider each child individually and determine if we have the staff and facility to meet their needs. If we feel we can work with the support of the family and other community services, we will create an IEP (Individual Education Plan) and modify the program to enable the child to be successful at Wesley. We also have staff with special education training. However, not all exceptionalities can be accommodated. We also reserve the right to limit the number of special needs children at any given time, as we want to ensure that staff and students are supported.
What is the school’s withdrawal policy?
Wesley Christian Academy’s ability to offer a refund is limited by the need to make employment commitments to staff and enrolment commitments to other student applicants.
If after confirmation of enrolment but prior to June 30, Wesley Christian Academy receives written notice of intent to withdraw, the Application Fee, Registration Deposit and Enrolment Fee shall be forfeited and all post-dated cheques for tuition which have not yet been cashed will be returned.
If written notice of intent to withdraw from WCA is received any time after June 30, the Application Fee, Registration Deposit and Enrolment Fee, and any pre-payment for tuition which has been received, shall be forfeited. Entitlement to any further refund shall be subject to a ninety (90) day notice period, during which tuition shall remain payable.
