On Friday afternoon, we celebrated our Senior Kindergarten students at their graduation from Wesley Christian Academy. Despite the rainy weather outside, it was all sunshine inside when the students walked into the gymnasium, two by two in their blue gowns, to the playing of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance.
Once on stage, a few of the students led the audience through the pledges, recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, and the singing of O Canada. This is how they started each school day at Wesley, and they wanted to start their special ceremony the same way.
The graduating class then presented two songs – “You’re the God” by Jonathan Rea and “We’re Kids Under Construction” by Celeste Clydesdale.
Next, a slide show of the past year in the two SK classes was shown. There were lots of good memories to share! Meanwhile, the students descended the stage and went to their seats, where they put on their graduation caps.
For the presentation of the diplomas, Ms. Palor, Mrs. Chioconi and Mrs. Yu’s SK1 class went first. This was followed by Mrs. Li’s SK class. Each student walked across the stage gracefully, shook their teacher’s hand, accepted their diploma and posed for a photo!
After the diplomas, the following three awards were handed out:
- The Christ-like Heart Award – This award is presented to a student who puts their faith in action in their daily life.
- Most Improved Award – This award allows teachers to recognize students who have improved not only in academics but those who have demonstrated improvement in behaviour, attitude, work habits, as well as social and academic development.
- ACE (Attitude, Cooperation and Excellence) Award – This award is given to the student who has shown consistency in attitude towards work and school, a cooperative spirit and excellence in effort.
Wesley Principal, Mrs. Serio, then said a few closing remarks and prayed for the graduates before they tossed their caps to mark the end of their SK journey and their next steps to Grade 1 !
Congratulations, Wesley Christian Academy’s SK Class of 2024!
