This morning, we held a very special extended chapel service. Staff and students have been dressing according to a daily Christmas theme and today was “Christmas pyjamas or Christmas comfy clothes” day. Our gymnasium was filled with many dressed in plaid, red and green and all sorts of pajamas, hoodies and even bathrobes!
After the pledges, the Lord’s Prayer, O Canada and the Land Acknowledgement, three separate chapel teams led the audience through the recount of the Christmas story through the different Advent candles. Each candle was introduced, supported by Scripture readings, a Christmas carol, a meditation, a second Christmas carol and a prayer.
The topic of Advent was shared during Pastor Ian’s last visit earlier in the month. Although the names of the candles and some of the older traditional Christmas carols were not as familiar to some in the audience, the students still enjoyed the service and sang the loudest when carols like “Go Tell it on the Mountain”, “Hark the Herald” and “Silent Night” were introduced.
It was a wonderful way to start the last day of school before the break. Peace and joy be with you during this Christmas season!
