This morning, our chapel leaders led the pledges, The Lord’s Prayer, O Canada and the Land Acknowledgement. They also led the singing of the first song, “Cry of My Heart” (by Terry Butler).
Next, the audience watched an upbeat Wesley video about how CRISP leaders demonstrate a servant’s heart.
The Grade 5 classes then went on stage to recite their class memory verse, Galatians 5:22-23. Several representatives shared that they have been learning the story of Samson in Bible class recently. They explained that he did not have a servant’s heart and had strayed away from following God. A leader with a servant’s heart will reveal the Fruit of the Spirit. Then, they recited Galatians 5:22-23, first in French and then in English.
After the presentation, the chapel leaders led the reading of several descriptions of how leaders who have a servant’s heart behave.
For the second worship song, the chapel team led the singing of “Every Move I Make” with all the clapping and actions.
Wesley students then had a chance to see how some of their peers responded to the question, “Why should CRISP Leaders Walk the Talk?” and “What should CRISP Leaders pay attention to the needs of the people around them?” This short video featured 7 students.
Our guest speaker was Pastor Jeremiah from the Olive Branch Community Church. He talked about how leaders today are called to be influencers. Their actions inspire others to learn more, do more and be more. Even in our small leadership roles or our self- leadership roles, we can influence in a positive and Godly way just by being ready and willing to help others. Pastor Jeremiah emphasized that we can become a strong leader if we have a servant’s heart first. He briefly shared the story of Joseph and used him as an example. He then used an acrostic technique to help the students remember what a servant’s heart should be.
- Selfless – value others with humility
- Encourager – believe in others and strengthen them
- Respectful – remember God created everyone in His image, so treat everyone with respect
- Vision – have a vision of wanting to be more like Jesus so that others can see Him in you
- Attitude – have the right attitude in the way you carry yourself and treat others
- Needs – see the needs of others and do something about it
- Trustworthy – be a follower of Jesus and trust in Him
Pastor Jeremiah reminded the audience that God created all of us and He wants all of us to know Him and have a personal relationship with Him. He then concluded in prayer, asking God to give us a servant’s heart so that we can be ready and willing to be CRISP leaders and followers of Jesus.
The chapel leaders wrapped up the service by leading the recitation of an aspirational passage, which is the hope of being a CRISP leader.
