Today’s ELC Chapel – January 10, 2025

The SK2 class led today’s ELC chapel service. After the pledges, The Lord’s Prayer and O Canada, Mrs. Li led the students in singing “Lord I lift Your Name on High”. As it was a familiar song, the students sang with energy and completed all the actions. The second song, “I will Trust You God”, was not as familiar to the students but Mrs. Chioconi encouraged the students by explaining that the song is tied in with today’s message.

After the song, Mrs. Chicoconi shared a simple condensed version of Psalm 121, highlighting that if we trust God, He will protect and take care of us. Next, she set up for her presentation, unwrapping glass jars that were wrapped in paper or bubble wrap. She explained that those are examples of things that protect other things from breaking. She cited some other examples of protection, including umbrellas, knife covers and sunglasses.

Mrs. Chioconi used two oranges to make her point today. She put a whole orange in some water and it floated. Next, she peeled an orange and put that into a separate jar of water, only to watch it sink. She explained that when we put our trust in God, we are protected by Him, and we are like the orange with the peel. We remain afloat. However, the opposite happens when we do not have God by our side. She reminded the children of three things:

  1. God is our helper
  2. God is our protector
  3. God keeps us from harm

She explained that we must also do our part and trust Him, love Him and pray every day.

Next, the SK2 class went to the front to sing “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”. Then, everyone sang ” I Will Trust You God”, before Mrs. Chioconi concluded in prayer to end the service.
