The SK1 class led this morning’s ELC chapel service in the cafeteria. After the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer, we sang three songs: “Praise”, “The B-I-B-L-E Song”, and “Thy Word Is A Lamp Unto My Feet”.
Miss Palor was the speaker. The first part of her message focused on “folding”. She showed a paper airplane that had been folded with a piece of paper and then she asked for three volunteers. They were tasked with folding different things ten times. The first was a $20 bill, followed by one page of a Scholastic Book flyer, and finally, two pages of a Scholastic flyer. Each volunteer did their best but could not reach the challenge of making 10 folds in their item.
Then, Ms. Palor redirected the audience from “folding” to “unfolding”, using the Bible verse from Psalm 119:30, which talks about unfolding God’s word. She explained that unfolding God’s word means to read it and take in God’s message. She used the traditional children’s song “Read your Bible – Pray Everyday” to help her make her point. The students sang it and did the actions, emphasizing that they will grow, grow and grow (spiritually) by reading and praying daily. Miss Palor also emphasized that if we don’t unfold God’s word on a regular basis, we could be missing out on important blessings, learnings and even “shrink, shrink, shrink” (spiritually, – like the song states). With God’s word and teachings in our hearts, it can help us with our choices and impact our behaviour as well as our responses when we encounter difficulties.
Next, Ms. Palor led the students in prayer, asking God to give us the desire to read the Bible everyday, to listen to our parents and teachers, and to be thankful for the stories, songs and lessons that help us grow closer to Him each day.
Then, she asked the entire SK1 class to go to the front to share various Bible verses that their class has learned or memorized. Each verse started with a different letter of the alphabet.
To wrap up, the SK1 class led the other students and teachers to sing “Thy Word is a Lamp Unto My Feet” once again.
