Today’s ELC Chapel Service – April 11, 2025

This morning, our SK1 class led the ELC chapel service, opening with the recitation of the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer. To begin our praise part of the service, more representatives from the SK1 class joined the chapel leaders in the front to do all the actions to the three songs that were sung – “I Wanna Do Right”, “L-O-V-E”, and “Thy Word”. Mrs. Kaske then said an opening prayer, asking God to open the ears, minds and hearts to receive God’s love and understanding.

The message was delivered by Mrs. Yu, who came dressed in pioneer attire as “Mrs. Merriweather”. She showed slides of the recent SK field trip to Willowgrove Farm where they learned how maple syrup was made, the old fashioned way. She ended that part of her presentation with the question, “Who would have thought of getting sugar from a tree?” She answered her own question by sharing that God is the one and He has very good ideas.

This was the perfect segue to the book, God’s Very Good Idea by Trilia J. Newbell. Mrs. Merriweather read this story to the children. It is a book about God’s very good idea to create lots of different people so that they can enjoy loving Him and loving each other. It starts at the Garden of Eden and leads to God’s heavenly throne room. It also shows how despite our sinfulness, everyone can be a part of God’s very good idea through Christ’s actions on the cross. We can be one loving church family.

After the story, Mrs. Merriweather closed in prayer. She acknowledged how we ruined God’s great idea through sin, but she thanked Him for the gift of Jesus and asked Him to help us love Him more.
