Our JK1 class led this morning’s ELC chapel service. Representatives from the class led the pledges, O Canada and the Lord’s Prayer. Additional students from the class helped with the actions and singing of the three worship songs – “I Will Trust in You, Lord”, “Jesus, You Are My #1” and “Praise”. The students particularly enjoyed singing and jumping to the last song by Elevation Worship.

Ms. Faris then shared a message about kindness. She used a demonstration to show how a little kindness can make a difference to counteract the contrary. She filled a dish with water which represented the world. She sprinkled pepper (which represented people) in the water. Next, she added some soap from a soap bar, which was personified as “Angry Bob”. The soap turned the water cloudy. However, with the application of sugar (also known as “Miss Pinky Pie” and her kindness), the water cleared and the pepper could be seen in the water again! Ms. Faris encouraged the students to be like Miss Pinking Pie and be helpful, use kind words and be gentle.

Next, she read a book called A World of Kindness by Ann Featherstone (Editor) and 9 illustrators, which gives children many ideas about how to show kindness and consideration to others.

After the story, Ms. Faris shared that in their classroom, they have a “Kindness Jug”. Every time someone is seen doing an act of kindness, a bright coloured pompom is added to the container. Once it is filled, the class will enjoy a special reward. She encouraged everyone to do the same and show kindness, no matter how small the action.
To conclude, Ms. Faris asked the students to pray with her. Together, they asked God for help to be good examples, to show love and kindness, and to be a guiding light to others.
