Wesley Christian Academy follows a thorough, structured and Christ-centered program that enables students to learn in a consistent, meaningful, and purposeful environment. Our curriculum often exceeds the Ontario expectation and develops learners with critical thinking skills and practical experience.

Our programs are sensitive to the children’s learning needs and development and are organized around the four foundations (Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, Expression) set out in the Ministry of Education’s document, How Does Learning Happen? (Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years).

We see children as competent, capable, curious, and rich in potential. This critical view of children allows us to value and build on our students’ strengths and abilities. This understanding is essential in shaping the different aspects of our early years programs

Each year, our toddler children express an abundance of energy and natural curiosity. Our stimulating and flexible toddler program fosters opportunities for children to develop skills that will be essential as they grow.

Indoor and outdoor play as well as weekly themes encourage recognition of sounds and sights in the environment. They explore using real items such as fruit, utensils, pictures, and other sensory and tactile medium. They learn through manipulating materials, making marks, developing eye-hand coordination, and imaginative expression. The children develop social/emotional, language and listening skills through verbal expression, sharing, taking turns, stories, learning new words and following instructions. Matching, sorting, counting, tracing, recognition of shapes, introduce the children to math. Fine motor skills are enhanced by engaging in activities that require practicing thumb-index finger control. Self-help skills are gained by activities such as putting on/taking off shoes and coats and tidying up toys. Songs, stories, and finger plays at Bible and Chapel times encourages an atmosphere of fun, worship, and planting seeds about Jesus.

We recognize that each child is unique, competent, and capable, and we desire to maintain a safe enriched, fun toddler program.

Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum

Pre-K Outdoor Time

Pre-K Outdoor Time

The Pre-Kindergarten program promotes learning as an enjoyable experience for each child. Developing skills in all areas of learning is paramount. Therefore, daily activities are planned and implemented to foster growth in social development, language skills, cognitive skills, and physical development.

Our Pre-Kindergarten program offers an enriched academic curriculum in Language Arts, Mathematics and Bible using verses, songs, and various forms of visual aids. In the Language Arts, students are taught to recognize the name, sound and picture of short vowels and consonants. They are instructed on the formation of vowels and consonants in upper and lower case. There is also emphasis on language development and listening skills. In mathematics, students are taught simple counting from 1-30 and number concepts from 1-15. Study of the Bible comes in the form of choruses, lessons, and memory verses.

In addition to the academic curriculum, children are encouraged to explore through indoor and outdoor play, giving them the opportunity to problem solve, develop language, small and large motor skills and to have fun.

The children are also introduced to the world around them through the use of weekly themes. Science, arts and crafts, music (using songs, singing, and rhythm, etc.), sensory activities, physical activities, and the occasional field trip reinforce the theme concept.

Ultimately, our goal is to cultivate authentic, caring relationships and connections to create a sense of belonging among and between children and the world around them.
