FAQs for the Elementary School

These are some of the questions we are often asked. If you have additional questions, please give us a call at (905) 201-8461 or email us at info@wesleyca.com.

How big are classes?

We do our best to cap classes at 20.

What happens if classes are over 20?

If we have 21 or 22 students in the class, we will keep the class together. If classes are larger than this, we may have additional assistance in the classroom to keep the class together as one grade. If classes are larger, we will either divide the grade and have two classes – one straight grade and another that is split with a higher or lower grade OR have two smaller straight grades. Our preference is to keep the students in a straight class. All decisions are made based on the class of students and their needs.

What teaching qualifications do your teachers have?

Our teachers are qualified teachers with their Ontario certification. Some exceptions may apply to teachers with out of province certification.

What is the turnover rate of teachers at Wesley?

Our teachers tend to stay once they have joined the Wesley teaching staff. Teachers on our staff have been with us for as little as two years to over fifteen years.

How does Wesley support students with special needs?

We consider each child individually and determine if we have the staff and facility to meet their needs. If we feel we can work with the support of the family and other community services, we will create an IEP (Individual Education Plan) and modify the program to enable the child to be successful at Wesley. We also have staff with special education training. However, not all exceptionalities can be accommodated. We also reserve the right to limit the number of special needs children at any given time, as we want to ensure that staff and students are supported.

What should I expect if I come for an open house?

At our Open House, parents can expect to:
• Meet the teachers of the various grades
• See samples of student work
• Peruse the texts used
• Ask any questions
• Participate in a tour of our building
• Receive an enrolment package that explains tuition costs.

What should I expect if I come for a tour?

You will be given a one-on-one tour showcasing our classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, kitchen, and iMac computer lab. Tours usually last between 20 – 30 minutes, depending on the questions you may have. While on the tour, you will learn about:
• Class sizes
• Number of classes for each grade
• Credentials of our teachers
• Bible instruction
• Curriculum used for our core subjects
• Leadership program implementation
• Chapel service on Fridays
• Hot Lunch Program
If you would also like to see samples of schoolwork, please mention this when booking your tour so that materials will be ready for your perusal.

What is not included in the tuition fees?

Not included in tuition fees are hot lunch from our cafeteria, uniforms, before and after school care for elementary students, field trips, sporting events, and some specialized after school classes.

Is school bus service available?

Unfortunately, Wesley does not provide school bus service. The majority of our students are driven to school by their families. Some of our students come from as far away as Toronto, Aurora, and Stouffville. It  would be difficult to plan for bus routes that accommodate the vast distribution of our students.  However, there are private school bus companies that can be hired to transport your child to school.  They devise a route to pick up and drop off children in a specific area to local private schools.  In the past, some Wesley students have used this service to get to and from our school.
